In this episode, you’ll get to see the first Blox-Off of the season. For those who aren’t in the know, here’s how the Blox-Offs go down: Each of the individual pod winners will be tasked with an on-the-spot challenge which they will present one by one in front of everyone, minus the other pod winners, who are whisked away to a sound-proof room. The judges will rank the contestants from 1-6, and this, along with the daily challenge, will be used to determine who is sitting in the top three of the whole competition. The Blox rules state that these three will secure the first red jerseys of the season, promptly and literally putting a big red target on their backs. This episode is completely packed, as you’ll also get to dive into another daily lesson and its subsequent Bloxer challenge.
Episode three begins with the first Blox-Off of the season, one of the most intense Blox-Offs of any season yet. So intense, in fact, that the contestants get an unprecedented 15 minutes each to prepare (when they usually have none). The nerves kick in and really seem to affect most of the pod winners in their pitches. The rankings are announced and with a tie, the first four red jerseys are given out to signal who is the cream of the crop right out of the gate.
After the Blox-Off, we get to know more of the contestants, including some tiny entrepreneurs who haven’t even reached double digits yet! It demonstrates the importance of family and learning early.
Day Two starts with a breakfast celebration at Wes’ house for the pod winners. They discuss the competition growing stronger and who they are watching out for. Then it’s off to the second lesson of the series, Funnel Marketing For Startups. Wes goes through the 5 steps of the funnel that takes leads and turns them into customers. Afterward, the next challenge is revealed: Give a 3-minute pitch on your funnel strategy, copy, and technology and how they’ll move through each step. The consults go really deep as the contestants are flooded with ideas and inspirations and real-time adjustments that they can make in their businesses. Stay tuned for episode four where the day’s winners will be announced and the Blox-Off will blast off once again.
The name of the game for this lesson is growth hacking. Most startups only track traffic, users, and revenue, while the real magic is found in between those steps – what we call the funnel. The steps of the funnel are acquisition, activation, retention, revenue, & referral. A growth hacker’s job is to figure out how to move users from one state to the next. Although your numbers won’t be desirable, you must measure the conversations at each step and find out where the bottlenecks are in order to grow. Entrepreneurs can benefit from an audit of each stage, asking the right questions to get bottlenecks resolved.

GW Chew, aka Chef Chew, is the Founder & CEO of Something Better Foods Inc. and has been a vegan food inventor/restaurateur for over 15 years. Adopted at birth into a family with the last name “Chew,” Chef Chew believes that he was born with a mission and purpose to change lives for the better, one chew at a time. Chef Chew grew up in the “country” amongst a family of very heavy meat eaters and noticed over time that a lot of different diseases, from diabetes to cancer, plagued the members of his family. He later discovered that many of those same diseases have been linked to poor diet and overconsumption of animal meat products. Inspired to begin living a healthy lifestyle, Chef Chew switched to a plant-based diet in 2001 and started experimenting with creating vegan food products in 2004. He painstakingly invented the Better Chew proteins in his mom’s kitchen and has perfected the textures and taste over the past 15 years.
